Times have changed.

In about 1999, there was An Open Door in this city.  People would gather there for coffee from early morning to evening.  Homeless people had a place to go that was nothing else but hanging out.

When it came to feeding, The Upper Room was the place to be.

I remember I ate there for five months straight in 2002 at $26 a month so that I could spend the money I could have been using on smokes to buy patches to stop smoking.  I stopped smoking as was thereafter able to buy food and cook at my rooming house shared kitchen.  The Upper Room was there for me when nobody else was.

Now it appears The Upper Room and The Open Door were merged, staff displaced and quality gone down.  They call it Our Place.

Where can I spend my meal ticket?...
