Posted: Wed Jun 17, 2009 4:25 pm This is I.

It has been almost two months since I have updated you on my health. I should do this more often.

The above is a photo of me. I started wearing glasses in March of this year. I never had an eye exam ever until then. That's what one gets for growing up in Kenya. Anyway, no complaints. I got the glasses when I got them. Beloved husband's job helped.

I have been waking up earlier. Today I was up at 8:00am. Mostly I wake up at 9:00am compared to 10:30am-11:00am. I am enthusiastic about life - spontaneity has come back to my life. I did the work, eg taking my medication earlier in the day, getting the right supplements like vitamin D, being brave, having a great doctor for mental health that agreed to lower my doses because of side effects has really helped.

Doing dishes at night. This is tough but I am doing my best. If I do dishes at night, then I have more time in the morning to do other things.

In the almost two months that I haven't written, I have been coming to the club in the mornings. Three days a week. As a result, I am motivated to go back to the gym. I have established that I can wake up early. As early as 8:00am. It's a miracle. I have been lethargic since 1993 when I learned of my AIDS. Then to add on to that I got bi polar diagnosed in 1999. I slept days and watched TV all night. God, I remember those days. Just waking up to use the washroom. I hardly ate and so I was skinny and weak. Dying...And yet I went to presentations, cleaned the odd house but mostly slept.

My next plan is to start going to the gym again. I start tomorrow. Then I'll come by the club and head on home for breakfast. This is so exciting. I had to push myself and I am sure glad I did. Lots of planning and room for flexibility.

Thanks to all who helped me a long the way. I have valuable friends in this family. Yeah.

Starting tomorrow, I will be taking all my seven pills at night. One kivexa, 2 neverapine, 3 lithium (300mg each) and olanzopine 2.5 mg. Previously I was taking one HIV pill at night and the other in the morning. Now I can take them all in the night. That is one less thing to do in the morning. I can just get up, get ready and go. I don't have time to debate if I want my medication with tea, juice or water. I say this and I know how lucky I am to be in Canada. Very expensive to find clean water in Kenya.

Now that I am free in the mornings, I might just have a yogurt, banana or a muffin in the mornings. It is also smoothie season again. Definitely time to get on top of breakfast.

It does seem there is light at the end of the tunnel. And I say, "swim, ..., swim." And for those who know that I don't swim, it has been quite the journey.

It could be worse.
